So I wrote a poem in class earlier today (yes, in class…) about what happened last night… it’s kind of an inside joke between Lyndsey and me, but outsiders may be able to grasp the state of our situation too
Oh what a day for Lyndsey and Phy!
It seemed that everything had gone awry
They’d suffered a week with cupboards so bare
That all they could find was one Lynnette hair.
Walmart was waiting but classes were first
So they waited some days and their state just got worse;
Phy had no breakfast, Lyndsey no lunch –
They resorted to Jazzman’s for between-classes brunch.
The Jif had run out, Phy’s celery was rotten;
The mold on her berries looked much like cotton.
Lyndsey was fighting a Crimean War
Trying to clean the filthy dorm floor,
For Phy had dropped her sandwich conveniently face-down
Because honey on bread was all she ate now.
The milk jug was empty, the cereal, dry;
The girls knew that groceries were in order THAT NIGHT!
So the day finally came, the starvation complete:
The girls couldn’t live with only Ramen to eat.
They decided to skip the miserable Rot
To finally drive out to that full parking lot.
They went to the dorm intending to leave,
Phy kicked off her shoes and hopped on her HP.
So distracted was she by her hot date that night
She completely forgot the present day plight!
Lyndsey, confused at her roomie’s distraction –
For SHE thought that Walmart was the next course of action –
Nudged her and asked, When they would leave?
Making Phy leap from her leisurely seat.
They hurriedly ran from aisle to aisle
Not stopping for pleasantries, greetings, or smiles,
For Phy’s strict agenda was pressing them strong –
They had to buy groceries and couldn’t be long!
They got the necessities that they’d need the most
The yogurt and milk and the coffee roast
The ice cream and cookies and crackers and cheese
All the necessities, for those late night needs.
And thus they returned, bearing their goodies
Wearing their sweatpants and Liberty hoodies;
Phy made her date, Lyndsey got dinner,
And both of the girls are substantially thinner.
