I may not have mentioned this previously as I have been praying about the decision since I applied. Lifeway Ministries, based out of Nashville, TN, sends out a monthly career-connection newsletter that updates applicants on available jobs in the Lifeway organization. Lifeway is the publishing company for Beth Moore and other Christian writers. Lifeway, along with the Southern Baptist Convention, have several kids and family camps across the nation as well — specifically one called Ridgecrest in North Carolina, and one called Glorieta in New Mexico.
Glorieta lies in the mountain range of northern New Mexico, about twenty minutes outside Santa Fe and an hour or so from Albuquerque. The conference center, which can hold 2,000 people, has been in operation for almost forty years. The girls camp has only been in use for three.
On the career connections newsletter I saw that both camps were hiring. I have always wanted to go west, and I thought, “What’s the hurt in applying? It could be an adventure!” I had been praying for a job in Lynchburg for the summer, so I could stay in Virginia through the fall. Nothing was yet on the radar. So I sent in the application for a position as lead or assistant wrangler at Glorieta.
As a wrangler I would be responsible for leading trail rides, taking care of the horses, and working with families and kids of all ages who came to ride. I would also be helping with other parts of the recreation staff, like archery, the ropes, hiking, and a plethora of other outdoor sports.
After two phone interviews, a resume and application, and a lot of prayer for direction — I was hired. If all goes according to the current plan, I will move my finals a week earlier and leave May 9th for New Mexico… 1,000 miles straight westward from Lynchburg, VA.
God really does give clarity and direction when we ask for it. It was withing two hours of my specific prayer for that direction that I found out I was hired. This will be another adventure and I am excited to ride westward!
